Back in the 1990's the Met Bar was known as one of the coolest bars in London; difficult to get into and packed to the rafters with celebrities like the Gallagher brothers and Kate Moss. But since it's refurbishment a few years ago, it's shrugged off its member's only policy and opened its doors to all comers - like Laura and I.
Laura is author of the fabulous fashion-lifestyle blog Heroine in Heels. She's just moved down to London from Warrington so we thought it would be nice to meet up for a cocktail or two.
This week was London Fashion Week and the Met Bar had a special limited edition range of stylish cocktails in celebration. Wanting desperately to fit in, I grabbed anything designer I had in cupboard - welcome back Louboutins!
The bar is housed in The Metropolitan Hotel on Old Park Lane and is very NYC with a long sleek bar, leather stools and banquettes running down the opposite side.
We perched at the bar when we met at 6.30pm and were still perched there, if a little less balanced, five hours later. Well, we'd only just met in person and there was a lot to talk about!
The London Fashion Week menu consisted of five drinks inspired by Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, Tom Ford and Matthew Williamson.
As we stayed at the bar, we had the perfect view of each of these imaginative drinks being created.
The concentration and precision from the barmen was fascinating. Although with a price tag of £12 per cocktail, it's probably just as well!
Here is the Paul Smith - made to produce a striped effect synonyomous with the designer.
Laura and I had a fantastic evening chatting about all sorts including blogging, career, fashion and our mutual love of cheese.
Our evening refused to be blighted by the extremely drunk man who came over and informed us that we were talking too loudly. As we quietly discussed whether he'd been serious or not, he proceeded to knock over and smash all the drinks on his table. He was ejected from the bar.
The Met Bar is a great place to meet up with friends or go for some pre-dinner cocktails. The drinks are fantastic, the atmosphere is buzzy and the service is very, very professional...
....some of the time!
The limited edition cocktails at the Met Bar started Friday 13th September and are available until Thursday 17th September. There is 20% off the price for those lucky enough to have a catwalk invitation or show pass.
