A Birthday With A View

London has one of the world's iconic skylines. As it continues to evolve - one of the most recent additions being the distinctive Shard building - more bars and restaurants are popping up to take advantage of such a recognisable and historic view. Today we were visiting just such a place as well as one of the originals - The Oxo Tower.

This was my outfit choice of the day - another of my Sugarhill Boutique dresses. I love their stuff.

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon in London town.

I couldn't resist ordering myself one of the tempting cocktails as I waited for Lou at the bar of the Oxo Tower Brasserie. Well, it's part of my job really isn't it?

The Hot Cherry Crumble is Beefeater dry gin, cherry liqueur, fresh lemon and vanilla sugar, served warm. If you're a fan of mulled wine, you'd probably love this as much as I did. The perfect Christmas cocktail!

We were here not only to celebrate Christmas (we're both big fans!) but also because it was almost Lou's birthday. I had booked Not Afternoon Tea; a whimsical take on the classic afternoon tea format, pairing classic puddings with a matching cocktail.

The 'Something To Celebrate' Not Afternoon Tea experience also included two glasses of Laurent Perrier champagne and a buffalo mozzarella and proscuitto brushetta.

On the mouth-watering slate was a mini Christmas pudding, ginger cake, a mulled pear, cranberry & almond frangipane, a blonde delice, chocolate yule log, white & bitter chocolate praline tart and dark chocolate mousse.

Indulgent much?

Each little cake was a delight. I especially enjoyed the chocolate praline tart and good old Christmas pud with custard!

After our visit to Oxo, we had planned to head over to the chocolate market at The Southbank Centre but the pouring rain and wind scuppered that idea. Instead we continued the birthday celebration across town at Paramount Bar.

Paramount is a spectacular bar and restaurant just off New Oxford Street at the top of Centre Point. If you head up to the viewing gallery a floor above the restaurant you can enjoy 360 degrees of the city through huge ceiling to floor windows.

Tables, comfy leather chairs and stools line the bar all the way round so you can do a lap or two before deciding which view you want to settle with.

Best enjoyed with champagne! Happy Birthday Lou!

Not many people seem to know about this bar but everyone should. Although the restaurant downstairs is more lively, the viewing gallery is dimly lit and very chilled out. It's the perfect place for a first date (we witnessed of a few of these underway when we visited!), a quiet catch-up with friends or just a tourist stop!

Do get your name on the guestlist before you arrive though; this will save yourself some hassle at the door.

Lou and I had a wonderful Sunday evening chatting, laughing and looking down upon rain-soaked London.
