My First NBA Game

I've been to an American Football game. I've been to a baseball game. I've been to loads of Arsenal matches with my Dad and my brother. But Thursday night was my very first experience of professional basketball. Alex had bought us two tickets to see the LA Lakers take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Staples Centre - exciting!

Of course I was supporting the home team.

It was electric inside the arena despite the home team's rather dismal performance of late (they've lost 35 of 53 games so far this season...not ideal). We had a  fantastic view of the court.

Now I don't know much about American sport but I had a few things on my tick list that I felt had to be done in order to fulfil the sporting experience. These were:

1. Get the home jersey (see above)
2. Get a foam finger (see above)
3. Eat a massive hotdog

So I may have felt a little ill the next morning but, damn, that hotdog was good!

The game kicked off (does a basketball match 'kick off'?) and the crowd went wild as the Lakers took an unexpected lead. For someone like me who's not a huge sport fan, it's a pleasingly straight-forward game to follow and I couldn't help but get caught up in the atmosphere.

I also found the sheer size of the players utterly fascinating! The shortest guy was around 6ft 3 and the tallest, 7ft!

As I'd hoped, there were a few very famous behinds on the expensive court-side seats. I spotted Will Ferrell straight away who was alongside his fellow movie stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jack Nicholson (legend!). Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers was there as well as Ryan Seacrest and ex NBA player Dennis Rodman.

Despite leading the scoring for the majority of the game, sadly the LA Lakers didn't win. The Thunder beat them 107-103. A shame really as it would have been nice to have witnessed a home win but it was great entertainment despite the result and a fantastic evening was had.

I hope you all had a fantastic Valentine's Day; whether you're all loved up, on the lookout or happily single. Mine was lovely. This year it was our sixth Valentine's Day together and we'd booked a table at Cecconi's in West Hollywood to celebrate. For the first time I wore my favourite sale purchase of 2014 - my Alice + Olivia cut-out back dress (as previously seen on Taylor Swift!). We had a wonderful meal and I got back to the hotel room to find the bed covered in pretty pink and white rose petals, a plate of chocolate-dipped strawberries and a beautiful red rose. I'm a very lucky girl.

  1. Ahh Caroline that seems like such an incredible day!
I also don't know much about basketball, but seeing the Lakers is such an incredible and once in a lifetime experience (for us, anyways!).
Haha I would do the same if I got a chance to go.. jersey, foam hand, and junk food.

Seems like you had a very lovely Valentine's Day! You look gorgeous in that dress. Living vicariously through you right now as London is definitely not warm! X

  2. That looks like so much fun! Any time I travel to a different city I like going to see a home basketball game - it's so interesting see what all the different arenas are like as well as the people and the kinds of food they serve and things they do. I have yet to make it to LA but this makes me think it'd be a pretty good time!

I loooove that Alice and Olivia dress, you look beyond gorgeous.

  3. Can you bring Joseph Gordon Levitt home in your suitcase for me? Thank you kindly! :)

  5. The only basketball players I know are the ones that marry Kardashians...! I've been to a baseball game too but never basketball. I may put that on my list for when I visit LA. Even if it is just to get the t-shirt!!

I adore the Alice + Olivia dress, and the shoes go perfectly. How lovely to get back to chocolate covered strawberries! What a lovely hubby :)

  6. I would love to go to a Lakers game just to wear the top! The chocolate strawberry looks so good, glad you had a good time.

  7. Some fantastic celeb spots there! I think I'd be the same if I went to a game, I'd have to have a hot dog and foam finger, that's what it's all about!
