The California Journey Continues...

Before I get you up-to-speed with goings on here, I wanted to show you a few more of the pictures I took back in LA.

I made sure our visit included a lap or two of Rodeo Drive, one of the most glamorous shopping districts in the world. All three blocks are full of glittering elegance and classic high-end fashion. Prada, Gucci, Bvlgari, Christian Dior; they're all here. That said, there's no pressure to make any expensive purchases. I spent exactly $0. However, the palm tree lined street is still a must-see, especially for those fond of a bit of people-watching like I am.

As a big fan of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (yes I know it's trash...but it's fabulous trash) I had booked us a table for lunch in Lisa Vanderpump's Villa Blanca restaurant. It's gorgeously girlie, decorated with fresh white flowers and antique furniture. There are couches covered in soft cushions and a decking area where you can eat lunch in the Californian sun. The food was good - nothing to get too excited about - but I can't deny that I'd be tempted back again if I went with girlfriends; it's a perfect spot for a ladies lunch!

We departed LA on Sunday afternoon and headed down to San Diego.

We made a bit of a detour on the way though...I wonder if you can guess where to.

We arrived in the Pacific Coast area of San Diego just in time to see the sunset.

The temperature was quite a few degrees lower than we'd been used to and I dug around in the depths of my suitcase for some warmer clothing!

On our first night we headed out to the Gaslamp Quarter; the historic heart of San Diego and its dining and entertainment district. There are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from including places that specialise only in things like ice cream, doughnuts and chocolate....in very large portions.

With reference to those portions, I have to show you the banana and granola pancakes I ordered the next morning at a popular breakfast spot called The Mission. What I was presented with was enough for about four of me!

They truly were as delicious as they look - lighter and fluffier than my home-made pancakes seem to come out! They set me up nicely for my day ahead; a fun day of ice cream, exploration, cosmopolitans and ten pin bowling.

We also saw the Lego Movie which was great!

I can see why people like San Diego so much. If you like being active and enjoy your destinations laid back and very casual then it's the place for you. The people are friendly and the food is great. However, I kept finding myself daydreaming about Los Angeles. Yes, it was hotter and sunnier in LA but it wasn't just that. I feel so relaxed and at home there. I love the quaint houses that line the streets, the shopping, the huge roads, the awe-inspiring mansions in the hills, the excellent restaurant variety and amazing customer service. I think it's perceived by many as a place that's full of fake people and stick-thin models with their millionaire playboys - it's really not the case. Well, no more than in London! Of course it lacks the history and a lot of the culture that many cities boast of but, hey, it's got the sun and we just think it's awesome.

So in a last minute change to proceedings, I've ended up sat writing this on the patio of our room at the Hard Rock Hotel in Palm Springs. We took the decision to leave San Diego a day early. We were originally going to visit San Diego Zoo but instead loaded up the car and drove back into the warm sun. Palm Springs is a desert holiday resort city. I knew nothing about it before today but with it's long straight streets full of restaurants, bars and souvenir shops I would say it's not unlike a few of the touristy family-friendly areas of Spain and Greece I've been to.

Alex and I have one night here then tomorrow afternoon we're off to our final destination...

Sin City.

Yes in hindsight perhaps we should have stayed and visited the zoo but I think we kind of wanted to get some of the drive towards Vegas out of the way early! Next time I'll defo visit those cute pandas! :) xx

  2. SOOOOOOOOO jealous! I went to San Diego a few years ago for Comic Con (geek!) and I loved it, unfortunately I didn't get much time to explore though.

How amazing is the food in America?! Such huge portions and loads of yummy treats. I even like McDonalds in the US, they have so much more choice than we have here. You feeling sick yet? :D x

I love your cherry red ballet pumps by the way.
