Cocktail Night at Après

Friday Night = Cocktails

I reckon it's a pretty good rule to live by, don't you?

Last weekend, Laura and I headed down to Après - a boutique cocktail lounge you'll find opposite Selfridges. The bar is stylish and intimate, kind of mid-way between being lively (there's a DJ playing funky dance in the corner) yet relaxed. There's a decent sized outside area for the warmer months and a cute little snug round the back for you and your friends to retreat to if things just get a bit too loud.  And yes, we ended up in there (well, I am in my thirties now...).

I was invited along to try a few of the cocktails on their new menu - an invitation that was never going to get declined. I begun the evening with a recommendation from our friendly host, Jez. It was the Katleya; named after the national flower of Venezuela. Santa Teresa Grand Reserva, vanilla sugar, fresh strawberries, lime, lychee juice and rose water is all muddled together to produce this fruity, refreshing cocktail. Quenches the thirst nicely.

Laura had the Pushkin. Pear vodka, apple liqueur, apple, pineapple & lemon juices, pear puree and spiced caramel syrup. Served long with a rather impressive apple feature on top!

There were creamy cocktails...

...cocktails on fire....

And one that won the Best Cocktail award for me...the Pick a Dilly Margarita; dill infused tequila, watermelon, lime juice, agave and orange bitters. Served with the classic salty rimmed glass.

If you're a margarita fan like me, you'll love it.

More cocktails happened this night, I won't deny it. The menu is exciting, creative and tropical; think Mahiki. I shan't go through each one in detail but I can confirm that Après proved themselves to me as an impressive choice for a night out, whether it be for a catch up with friends, a work event or a dance in the downstairs bar. Definitely worthy of being added to my Top 10 List.

And another string to their bow is the food. We ordered the flat iron steak and the Vietnamese style hot wings (apologies for the blurry pictures; it was pretty dark!).

We polished it all off very quickly. I was pleasantly surprised at how succulent and flavoursome the meat was (steak is a risky business in a cocktail bar!) and the crispy wings were so juicy and more-ish. Very satisfying cocktail snacks.

We wrapped up our evening with a fruity shot each. The Après Passion is made with vodka, strawberry and passion fruit.

What with all this fresh fruit, this presumably must have been a pretty healthy night, right?

    1. I know, it's that kind of place that you would just pass by but next time it's worth popping in! That margarita was something quite special actually. So relieved they included the salt...it's not the same without it! And thank you re my top, it's from Wheels & Dollbaby (one of my favourite brands but you just can't get it over here any more, boo) x
