Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium

Here's a post to please all the cat lovers out there!

There has been much anticipation surrounding the opening of London's very first cat café. Following more than a year of fund-raising and preparation, Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium finally opened its doors last month to much excitement. The reservations from eager feline fanciers came flooding in - three thousand bookings were made in the first four and a half hours and the place is all booked up now until early July. Luckily, I got in quick and secured a slot for Angela and I for yesterday evening.

The café is located on Bethnal Green Road in East London. We entered through the colourful cat shop and were taken through to a small lobby area where we were warmly greeted, asked to wash our hands and informed of the Lady Dinah rules: no waking sleeping cats, no feeding the cats, that kind of thing.

We were taken through to the street-level room. There were quaint arm chairs, books, toys, tiny cat beds and three or four sleeping kitties. It was fun playing 'spot the cat', some of them managing to squeeze into tiny corners or lie flat out on the narrow shelves, legs and tails dangling!

You can read up on each cat here if you can identify them...

Rehoming cats is something very close to the hearts of owners Anna and Lauren. All eleven cats that live here were donated by people leaving the country who could no longer look after them. Very sweet indeed.

We headed downstairs to the larger café area which has big comfy sofas and plenty of space to relax with friends over a cupcake and a coffee. And perhaps a cat.

Some of the cats were feeling very playful.

Others were much more laid back.

What beautiful moggies!

If the cats get a bit bored of being around people they can chill out in 'the residing area' (an elaborate, purpose built bookcase), go behind it or hide out in the holes. The cats also have a break each afternoon when the café closes it's doors for an hour.

As well as tea, coffee and other soft drinks there is a decent food menu on offer. You can get quiches, salads, a variety of cakes and the good old classic scone.

Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium is an endearing and sweet little place to visit. You can see how well the gorgeous cats are cared for and there are constantly staff keeping an eye on things to keep everything in order. The food is very nice as were the staff. I don't doubt that it will keep the feline fans flocking for months to come.

  1. Gorgeous photos, I love the ones of the cat in the tube. I was waiting to see if the hype would die down a bit before booking but I think I'm just going to have to book as I'm not sure the next appointment date is ever going to be any sooner than a few months away.

  3. I love cats, my family have always had them so I have been rather curious about this place. It must seem so weird to be eating food with cats wandering about, I think I'd get too distracted and just start crawling about all over the floor playing with them!

Loved reading about it though, I was wondering what it would be like!
