Sin City - Part I

I'm baaaaack!  Did you miss me?

That was actually the longest period I've ever not blogged. I wanted to post directly from Vegas but I just couldn't find enough time. I don't think we were in our room for longer than a few hours and that was when we were either getting ready to go out or grabbing a few precious hours of sleep!

Mary and I had such a fantastic time; so many laughs and so much fun. Inevitably I've come away with well over a hundred photos and this is Vegas post one of three...but don't worry, I'll keep it interesting!

We touched down at McCarran Airport last Wednesday evening, buzzing with excitement. Deciding to kick off proceedings in style, we'd booked a flashy limo to pick us up and take us to our hotel. We blasted out new Vegas resident Britney Spears on the MP3 system as we sipped on champagne.

The view from our hotel room in the Cosmopolitan was no less thrilling!

Sticking to our past tradition, we ordered ourselves some room service as we got ready to hit The Strip. It was, in hindsight, a rather odd decision to order a garlic pizza before a night out...

One way in which this visit differed from our others was that the huge nightclubs were put on the back burner in favour of the stunning lounge bars, incredible restaurants and casino night life. Perhaps we've just grown up a bit but sipping gorgeous cocktails, chatting, laughing and people watching until the early hours was so much more appealing! Two of our favourite haunts were in our hotel - the Chandelier Bar and the Vesper Bar. Beautiful venues.

On our first night we headed to Foundation Room, a late-night exotic lounge located high above the towers of Mandalay Bay. There's an outside balcony area with even more amazing Strip views.

That night we got to bed around 5am.

We awoke the next morning, slightly jaded, to this:

The excitement of Vegas is enough to ease the worst of hangovers!

Another good remedy is breakfast and a Bloody Mary in Mon Ami Gabi over at Paris. Highly recommended for an excellent al fresco breakfast.

And then it was time for a pool party!

I had negotiated a very nice price with the host at Marquee Dayclub and we had our own cabana for the day. With our fair skin, Mary and I needed the option of shade! Plus the table service is a huge perk.

Just a note to anyone planning to visit Vegas, do email in advance and arrange a minimum spend amount. Paying over $1,000 for a cabana is not always necessary! You can find most of the host contacts here.

It was a fantastic day in the sun (about 28C), drinking frozen cocktails, testing out the food menu (HUGE portions) and, again, people-watching. It never gets boring!

Part II coming soon....including Japanese fusion in Koi, Britney Spears and a ladies lunch at Villa Blanca, Beverly Hills!

  3. I got a little giddy seeing this update from you ... LOVE hearing about your beautiful holidays, although yet again I'm left thinking I MUST get myself to Vegas .. I'm no further along sorting myself out a trip than the last time you went :s

That view from your hotel window is just amazing, wow, so so beautiful!

I definitely would have headed for the bars too, I've suddenly got so old, but nothing beats having a lovely comfy seat and a fruity cocktail and some nice peace and quiet to people watch and have a chat :D I'm impressed you stayed out until 5:00 am, I definitely wouldn't have managed that.

Looking forward to the next part!

Last time we were in Vegas we when to Tyrst, XS and Tao, I think this time we might go along the same lines a you and head to the lounge bars etc. Have you tried the spas in Vegas? The one at the Encore is one of the best I've ever been to! I'm going to check out you Cabana contact too!!

    1. I think we've done most of the clubs before, that's one of the reasons we weren't so bothered to do it again this time. They are great but you have to be in the mood! I've been to the Aria spa which was lovely and I had an incredible facial in the MGM Grand spa. That was the first time I'd had my blackheads removed and, jeez, it hurt!! Haha x

I'm so jealous you've been back to Sin City. I went and stayed in the Mirage with my family a few years ago, I can't wait to go back after turning 21 though, I reckon it will be even better and sparklier than before!
I'm seriously eyeing up that scrummy food, get me those eggs benedict!!
Don't worry about the 4lbs, if you are going to do Vegas, you do it in style!!!
