Sin City - Part II

Getting tickets to see Britney Spears live was a must for our trip. Although I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan, I do love a bit of pop and not many performers sum it up quite as well as her. Britney may have had her ups and many downs (the head-shaving episode, anyone?) but she's still going and the Vegas residency gig suits her down to the ground.

In the build up to our big night, we spent most of the day lazing at The Cosmopolitan pool drinking fruity mocktails and generally recharging. Again, we managed to get ourselves a bed by haggling the silly prices right down to an acceptable minimum spend. Sometimes that insurance broking experience can come in handy in every day life!

A great pre-Britney venue for dinner is at Koi Restaurant and Lounge. It's in the same hotel, Planet Hollywood, and having dined there once before we knew we were in for a treat.

The menu at Koi is inspired by traditional Japanese dishes and enhanced with modern Californian influence. Hungry and with stomachs that needed lining, we decided to order a few plates between us to share.

We had the Kobe Style Potstickers (yummy crispy dumplings), Miso Bronzed Black Cod (delicious fish with a texture like silk), Creamy Rock Shrimp Tempura (tangy and tasty), Peppercorn Fillet Mignon (I think the picture below says it all) and a side of tofu and vegetables (the only disappointment).

Doesn't it all look amazing? A class dinner in an exotic and glamorous atmosphere. Koi certainly lived up to expectations.

Next up...it's Britney time!

This was exciting!

We had booked front row tickets so we were expecting a decent view but we had no idea quite how close we would be to the lady herself! She kicked off the show with Work B*tch and from then it was just hit after hit. Not an album track in sight!

It was a really entertaining show with pizzazz by the bucket-load and great choreography. Yes, so she mimes the whole way through but that was hardly a surprise. The crowd were still loving it and the atmosphere was electric! It's clear she doesn't quite have the love and enthusiasm for her art that you get from performers like Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake but there's no denying her stage presence and sheer pop appeal.

Then we were back out on The Strip, Britney merchandise in tow!

I've written before about my love of LA and how at home I feel whenever I go there. I felt so sad leaving in February that I dropped Mary a text suggesting we visit for one night during our Vegas holiday. Lucky for me, Mary was up for it and the internal 45 minute flights were booked!

We were staying at boutique hotel The Mondrian, West Hollywood. Its stylish pool area and renowned Sky Bar attracts the cool, glamorous types and there always seems to be some kind of party going on, day and night.

But Mary and I had a lunch date at the gorgeous Villa Blanca restaurant. I've mentioned it before, here.

We were given a lovely spot on the patio and spent a good couple of hours eating, drinking pink sangria and doing what we do best - people watching. I spotted Nigel Lythgoe, Lisa Vanderpump's husband Ken (for a big Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fan like me, quite exciting!) and we particularly enjoyed the little dog on the next table in the polo shirt.

The pink bottled sangria - Lisa Vanderpump's own brand - was fabulous but far too easy to drink!

We decided to have the fish - for me, the Villa Blanca fish and chips and for Mary, the pan roasted sole. Both were wonderful.

LA sun, amazing company, great food, pink drinks and dogs wearing clothes. Could a ladies lunch be more perfect?

Part III coming soon....including the biggest pancakes I've ever seen, Venice Beach, Diablo's Cantina and saying goodbye to Vegas.

  1. I saw Britney at the O2 and like you I'm not her No1 fan but she puts on a worthy show (and it's almost as entertaining watching the No1 fans in their finery!!)

    1. Yes she did well, bless her. I think she's pretty much in it for the $$ but if the fans go away happy then what does it matter.

  2. I want to go to LA!!! Is it really sad that I've never been to see a performer? I've been to T4 on the Beach and various other little things but never seen anyone big!

Love the pooch in his little T-shirt (Hope Jimmy wasn't too jealous!) Your red dress is gorgeous!

  7. Doing my blog catch up this evening I purposely left you until last cos I knew I'd be so jealous that you saw Britney :p I have seen her on tour a few times but for some reason I've been excited about the idea of seeing her in Vegas ever since she announced it, I'd love to go so much!

So if you're looking for me, I'll be sitting here on the sofa sulking for the rest of the evening :p

  8. I am dying to see Britney at her Vegas residency, I saw her years ago on her Circus tour and you're right it is just purely a good show - and that dog in the polo shirt is too perfect!

  9. Wow! Looks like it was super fun! Having stayed at the Mondrian, I'm definitely aware of how fabulous Sky Bar can be. There's ALWAYS a party happening there. Right around the corner is a Koi Restaurant as well on La Cienaga. It's also great too. And, of course, I'm anxiously awaiting the 'biggest pancakes I've ever seen' post. ;-)
