Cocktail O'Clock - 21 Covent Garden & Suka

The past week was a bit of a naughty one when it came to sticking to my 'healthy days' quota. With my husband away on a work jolly, I gave into the temptation to go out on the town a little more than the norm and Friday night was no exception. I headed into central London to meet my friend Angela, sample a few cocktails and have a spot of dinner.

Our first port of call was 21 Bar & Restaurant. You can't miss it; it's slap bang in the centre of the tourist mecca that is the Covent Garden Piazza. Serving Italian food and colourful cocktails, this three storey venue was already bustling when we arrived at 5.30pm. Luckily, we had a prime little spot on the balcony of The Print Room reserved and waiting just for us.

As we enjoyed the warm summer evening, occasionally glancing down at the somewhat unimpressive street performers below, we were spoilt for cocktails. Fruity ones, sour ones and sparkling ones.

My personal favourite was the refreshing La Mondorla; Amaretto, apricot brandy, Cognac and orange juice.

Then, just as I was admiring Angela's amazing Louboutin shoes...

...one of the barmen accidentally spilt some bright raspberry cocktail over the hem of her perfectly white dress! Disaster! He apologised profusely and immediately set to work on somehow managing to banish the stubborn stain almost entirely. We were rather impressed! Still, as a further apology, out came some very attractive looking plates of Italian antipasti; crostinis, Parmesan crisps with marinara and mixed olives. I couldn't help but indulge despite our plan to go to dinner straight afterwards. I just treated them as a starter and I'm glad I did as they were very tasty indeed, particularly so those Parmesan crisps with dip!

Despite the little spillage mishap, the service we received at 21 was nothing other than friendly and efficient. So much so that our barman didn't just take a photo for us, he appeared in it too

Our next stop was a venue that's becoming something of a regular haunt of mine - The Sanderson Hotel. In the past, I've visited for the Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea, cocktails and breakfast but this was my first experience of dinner in the hotel restaurant, Suka

As it was such a pleasant evening, we were sat outside in the gorgeous Courtyard Garden.

The menu listed several tempting Malaysian 'street food' dishes. We decided upon the chicken satay, rendang daging (beef braised in coconut milk, turmeric, lemongrass and galangal), the sea bass fillet baked in a banana leaf along with a side dish of steamed Chinese broccoli, shiitake mushrooms and sesame.

The food was good; a lovely mix of different tastes and textures. I particularly enjoyed the side dish of the crunchy broccoli and mushrooms which was served in a wonderful tangy sauce. I could have eaten an entire plate of that alone!

We closed our gorgeous evening in the best way possible: dessert. Although we weren't blown away by the, albeit, beautifully presented apple tart, the soft and gooey pecan pie was a sensation. We just wished we had ordered two of them!

Oh yes, one quick note on my dress. The other day I tweeted about how I may have been naughty and gone a little bit mad with the pennies on a few items in the new Lipsy Loves Michelle Keegan line. Well, this dress is the first I've worn and I love it!

You can find it here!

I hope you all had a fab weekend!

The cocktails look fabulous. Bit of a shame about the dress mis-hap but so nice of them to go above and beyond to make it right! You're loving the Sanderson aren't you! I need a girlie evening soon! Really looking forward to Camden Beach now!
