West Side Story @ The Royal Albert Hall

Last night was emotional. Very emotional.

In fact, I had tears streaming down my cheeks within the first minute as the London Philharmonic Orchestra began to play the beautiful score from West Side Story. It wasn't just because it sounded so truly magnificent played live in such an epic venue. It was also because I've adored the film since I was a very young girl and it's a love that has never waned in my 32 years. The Romeo & Juliet inspired story of true love has always touched me and the soundtrack has never been out of my music collection.

So it's no surprise that my husband's gift of VIP tickets to see the movie at the Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra was one of the best things he could have got me. The day had been a long time coming - I think the tickets were last year's birthday present - but finally it had arrived. Having enjoyed some celebratory bubbles at my house, my lovely Mum and I headed to South Kensington to start our evening with an inclusive three course meal at the venue's Coda restaurant.

The meal was impressive. My French onion soup was great and the red mullet with a creamy risotto divine.

The Baked Alaska (ice cream and cake topped with brown meringue) wasn't too shabby either! How I love a good dessert.

After our enjoyable meal we took our seats in the stalls. The show was a sell out so the hall was packed and the atmosphere buzzing. Shivers flew down my spine as the film commenced and the orchestra began to play.

I may have seen West Side Story around forty or fifty times before but I enjoyed every single moment of it as much as I did the very first time. Occasionally though, I did find myself distracted, watching the conductor in awe as he guided the remarkable orchestra. Such talented people.

Photography and video wasn't allowed during the performance although I did manage to record this little video during the closing credits.

What an absolutely wonderful night it was for Mum and I. It was so special for both of us and one that we'll never forget. Thank you Alex!

Feeling emotional yet elated, we headed back home to this fluffy little face.

Such a cutie

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
