About Me

cocktailsandcaroline@yahoo.co.uk

I was born in Epping and brought up in Basildon in Essex. I own a pair of white high heels but no fluffy dice!  I moved to London in 2002 and have lived in various parts but I am, without much doubt, a North London girl!

Following a 12-year suited and booted career in the City as an Insurance Broker, I decided to leave in 2010 to study at Leith's School of Food & Wine.  Then in early 2012 I set up my own little baking company.  I bake cakes, cupcakes, brownies, quiches and loads of other tasty things for special events and I often hold my own cake stall in the north London area.

I've always loved getting dressed up and going out. Even at my grand old age of 32, I still get excited about visiting new places to eat and drink in London. I wanted a platform in which to share my experiences - good and bad - without forcing it down people's throats on things like Facebook and my blog has been a perfect place to do so!  It's also a lovely way of documenting my travels (I do love a good holiday!), recipes and thoughts all in one place.

I love shopping, eating, champagne, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando, dogs, Sex And The City, Vegas, scones, karaoke, Ben Affleck, the ocean and watching reality television.

  2. Hi Caroline! I'm not from London, nor do I live in London, but you appear to love cocktails (and traveling)just as much as I do! Kudos to you for leaving your career to follow your dreams! Hopefully I make it to London sooner rather than later, but if you ever need a travel-buddy for Las Vegas, I'm your girl :)

    1. Hi Ashlee! Thanks for your comment. I do love a cocktail or two for sure...still seeking out London's best! Do you love Vegas too then? I can't get enough of the place, I always have so much fun and I feel so safe there too. Thank you for following my blog, I hope you come back very soon

  3. Hi Caroline! I love your blog! Even though I do not live in London but if I ever get the chance to visit I would definitely check out the places you blogged about. I wish Austin had more cute little places like London.

Also, I really like your blog template especially the side bar square-photo-links to your other blog posts. I was wondering if you would share with me how to do that? I would greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Vy

    1. Thank you Vy, I hope my blog will be helpful. You should definitely come and visit London one day, there's so much to see :)

Yes, if you're using Blogger like me you can do the side bar by going to Layout, 'Add a Gadget' then add an Image. Then include the corresponding page link. I made the pictures look pretty on Instagram :)

      Hope that helps!

  4. How we haven't come across one another on our Londoner jaunts I do not know! I often check in to see what you've been up to and I don't know why I'm surprised each time that you have posted about a place that I have literally just been to .. Casa Negra being the flavour of the moment for me this time! I'm now going to keep my eyes peeled (in the not-at-all-stalkerish sort of way .. that would be scary and weird)!

Anyway, loved your post and pictures .. where's next on your list of places to explore?

    1. Hi Ella!

Well look at us both with our fingers on the pulse of London! I saw your write up on Casa Negra - you just went for drinks, didn't you? I can see that it must be good for pre-going out cocktails, the one I had was lovely.

Where am I off to next? Well I have Retro Feasts, Aqua Shard and Disco on the radar! You? So many exciting new places to try. Almost makes me pleased to be living in London...although I'd still prefer Beverley Hills ;)

I'll keep an eye out for ya! Love your blog by the way, it's one of the first I started reading when I got into this blogging game.

  7. There are few things in this world that I find more delicious than baked goods ... and Ben Affleck is one of them.
So obviously, I think discovering this blog may have been one of my best finds to date!! Can't wait to read all you have to say!

  8. Hi Caroline! Just discovered your blog (through your comment on my post, thank you!). You sound so brave starting your own bakery business! Not only do I love pretty much all baked goods but I knew this blog was for me when Elvis Presley is the first on your list of loves. Anyone who loves the King is immediately someone I want to read more from! Ha :)

    1. Well if you're a fellow Elvis appreciator then I'm more than proud to have you aboard! ;) He's amazing isn't he? I've been a fan since I was 8, even had an impersonator at my wedding (a good one though, not one of those tacky ones). xx

  9. Hi! It's interesting to read you went to Leith's - I'm thinking of going to Edinburgh New Town in September, which I think was set up by the old head of Leith's?

Thank you for stopping by my blog the other day anyway :) You've definitely found yourself a new fan of yours.

  12. Hello Caroline,

Second comment in almost as many minutes!?

Apologies if you say this somewhere else but, which markets do you do? I'm a North Londoner and used to have a stall at Archway and also one at Chatsworth Road Market (selling yarn for handknitting, and the odd piece that I'd made). Three winters outdoors was more than enough for me but I'm always interested in hearing about other people's market adventures.

    Best wishes

    1. Hi Susie!

I was at Bounds Green market for a while (but I had to leave becausea fellow cake stall owner was mates with the owner and she didn't like the competition!). I was there during the winter months too, not too comfortable! I go to Archway market now and again, I used to live on Fairbridge Rd! I wonder if I've seen you there! :)

    2. Hello Caroline,

Ah yes, we had cake wars at Archway too - it's a shame. I have to admit that I didn't much like it when a stall selling handknit (but very cheap) stuff came along but...all's fair in love and war. I suppose that it depends how big the market is and what the footfall is. Gosh, I don't miss it though.
You probably did pass by me then.
      All the best
      Susie
